One more thing worth flagging. More firms are running lateral applications through AI screening tools before anyone on the hiring side actually sees them. That's efficient for firms managing high volume, but it also means a strong resume can get filtered out before a person ever reads it. This is the whole reason a direct relationship still matters. When I know the hiring team, your materials go to a person, not a queue.
